Care of Your Provisional Veneer, Crown and/or Bridge Restoration
at Mission Peak Dental Care
To help keep your temporary in place, avoid eating sticky foods
(especially gum), hard foods (like candy, hard bread, tough meat, or
ice). These could break the provisional. If possible, chew only on
the opposite side of your mouth. Avoid the use of toothpicks and
interdental stimulators. Brushing and flossing with gusto is
necessary to keep the tissue from bleeding on the day of
cementation. It is important to continue to brush normally (2-3
times per day), especially around the gum line. Floss carefully,
daily, pulling the floss out from the side, not up from between the
teeth, as this may dislodge the provisional. If you have
provisionals that are splinted, use a bridge threader to get the
floss between splinted provisionals. On very rare occasions,
provisional crowns may come off. Call us if this happens and keep
the provisional so we can re-cement it back in. It is very important
for the proper of your final restoration, that provisonals stay in
place. If you are out of town and your temporary dislodges, you can
put a small amount of Denture adhesive cream or Vaseline in it and
reseat it. This will hold it in place until you can get in and see
us. It is normal to expect some hot, cold, and pressure sensitivity
after each appointment. Your gums may be sore for several days. You
may use whatever you would for a headache; Aleve, Advil, or Tylenol,
as directed on the bottle to relieve the discomfort. Use prescribed
medication only as directed. If your bite feels uneven, your gums
continue to be sore after three days, if you have persistent pain,
or you have any other questions or concerns, please call our office.
