Care Instructions After a Root Canal At Mission Peak Dental Care

You may experience some sensitivity for a few days, or up to a week, after completion of the Root Canal. If the pain persists more than two days or pain medication does not alleviate the pain call the office. The tooth that had the root canal may touch first and be very sensitive when biting down. This is caused by swelling between the end of the root and the bone. This normally subsides in a few days. If a temporary was placed in the tooth, you can expect pieces to chip off; it is rare for the whole temporary to fall out. If it does, call the office for an appointment to replace the temporary filling. If swelling occurs call the office for an appointment. For discomfort you may use whatever you would for a headache; Aleve, Advil or Tylenol, as directed on the bottle to relieve the discomfort. Use prescribed medication only as directed. If you are taking antibiotics and develop a rash, stop taking the antibiotics immediately and call Dr. Loisel.
